Deadline For Johnston/Trinity Decision Extended

The Competition Commission has announced that its decision on the proposed acquisition by Johnston Press of eight Trinity Mirror newspaper titles has been extended until 19 April 2002.

The CC had been due to report on 22 February 2002 but has asked to be granted an extension in this case because important new information has been submitted by Johnston Press.

Although the CC have asked for an extension of eight weeks in case their investigation proves protracted, they are hopeful that they will be able to report by the end of March.

Under the terms of the Fair Trading Act, only one extension can be granted for reports into newspaper transfers.
