Emap Appoints Alison Hall As New Editor Of More!

Emap has appointed Alison Hall as editor of its fortnightly young women’s title, More!

Hall previously worked as deputy editor on Emap’s teen title, Bliss, which recently followed Glamour in adopting the hand-bag friendly A5 format (see Bliss To Relaunch With A5 Format). Prior to that Hall was editor of Emap’s Slimming and Celebrity Bodies magazines.

Commenting on Hall’s appointment, Emap’s youth group editor in chief, Marina Gask, said: “Alison’s knowledge of the young women’s market makes her the perfect candidate. Her vision for More! is very exciting, and I can’t wait for her to start.”

Latest ABC figures for January to June 2002 show that More! has seen its circulation decline by 12.6% year on year to 262,532, down from 300,281 in the same period the previous year. However, the magazine received an editorial and artistic overhaul this August, which was promoted with a multimillion pound marketing campaign.

Emap is increasing its investment in its remaining titles and is looking to expand its women’s portfolio following the end of its joint ventures with Hachette Filipacchi (see Hachette Buys Attic Futura For £40 Million). Hachette took with it the fashion heavyweight Elle titles, before outbidding Emap for middle-market monthly glossy Red (see Emap Loses Fight For Red).

The next few months will be crucial for Emap and a number of closely-guarded new projects are already believed to be in the pipeline. The group will also be following the performance of its new celebrity weekly Closer, to see how it fairs in the circulation stakes.
