EMAP To Launch FHM In The US
EMAP has confirmed that it is to launch its best-selling FHM magazine in the US in February next year. EMAP has been planning to launch the lads’ magazine in the States ever since the company acquired US publisher Petersen in December last year (see EMAP Makes £720m US Move).
The US launch issue will have an initial circulation of 225,000 and circulation is expected to reach 400,000 by September 2000. Seven issues are planned for 2000. Ed Needham, former editor of FHM in the UK, has been appointed editor-in-chief (see EMAP Metro Prepares FHM For US Launch).
The launch of FHM in the US is part of EMAP’s plans to invest £20m to £30m in new launches during the current year. Earlier in the year EMAP also acquired Wagadon, specialist publisher of men’s and fashion magazines including Arena and The Face (see EMAP Boosts Consumer Magazine Portfolio With Acquisition Of Wagadon).
Commenting on the launch, EMAP Petersen’s chief operating officer, Tom Moloney, says: “Launching FHM in the US is the next logical step in its development. The title is a strong international brand and we have already launched its successfully in six countries, most recently in France… The Petersen acquisition will provide a good launch platform for further expansion of our titles in the US.”
