Emmerdale Lesbian Kiss Allowed
The Independent Television Commission has ruled that the scene in Emmerdale portraying a lesbian kiss, which drew 86 complaints to the commission, was acceptable. “The ITC is aware that some viewers may find any portrayal of lesbian behaviour offensive. However this was not an explicit sexual portryal and the ITC therefore concluded that the scene was acceptable at the time of day it was transmitted.”
The ITC upheld complaints from 23 viewers regarding a rape scene in the first episode of Kavanagh QC; the ITC found that the explicit description of the rape and sound effects were inappropriately scheduled during family viewing time. Central’s argument that the treatment was serious and responsible was accepted, but not their view that audience expectations of frankness had changed sufficiently in recent years to allow such an early transmission, 8pm.
