Euro ’96 Final Attracts 20m Viewers

The final of Euro ’96 on Sunday between Germany and the Czech Republic had a peak audience of just under 20 million individuals. The BBC1 coverage was viewed by a peak of 14.4 million whilst ITV attracted 5.5 million. This represents a 57.1% individuals peak share for BBC1 and 21.4% for ITV. The peak share for men viewing the final was 65.2% for BBC and 22.2% for ITV

In terms of average figures BBC1’s audience was 12.6 million individuals and ITV’s 4.3 million, with BBC1’s average share being 54.2% and ITV’s 18.3%.
