Fame Academy Headmaster To Join Emap As Consultant

Former Capital Radio group programme director and the ‘Headmaster’ of BBC’s Fame Academy, Richard Park, is to join Emap Performance as a consultant on London-based radio station Magic 105.4.

Park, who worked at Capital for 14 years before setting up his own media consultancy, will be working in conjunction with Magic 105.4’s programme director Trevor White across music and presentation.

Mark Story, managing director of Magic, commented: “This is the first time Emap has used a radio consultant. I am very excited about working with Richard again as Magic is extremely important to us and he will play a significant role in continuing the station’s growth.”

Park joined Capital in its heyday in 1987 and was behind the launch of Capital Gold in 1988. As programme controller he hired staff including Chris Tarrant, the breakfast show presenter, who has been the lynchpin of the group’s commercial success.

Park also worked as a director for Wildstar Records but seems keen to come back to radio following his brief foray into television. He commented: “It is a great pleasure to return to radio with Magic 105.4. I am a fan of the ethos of the station and look forward to re-uniting with Mark and Trevor in the New Year.”

According to RAJAR figures for the third quarter, Magic 105.4 has 1.2 million listeners a week, reflecting a 10% rise quarter-on-quarter.
