Flextech Launches Shopping Services

Flextech yesterday signed a deal to provide shopping services on Open, the interactive television service which launched earlier this month (see Interactive TV Launches In The UK). The five shopping outlets will be available to subscribers of Sky Digital.

The pay-TV group will initially offer two services, both of which are linked to its own channels. UKTV Shop features BBC books and merchandise, and Scene One will sell a selection of CD’s, books, videos and tickets based on its new entertainment channel and website of the same name. The deal includes an option to enchance this range to include Screen Shop, which will sell domestic and household items, and TV Travel Shop.

Ashley Highfield, interactive general manager at Flextech said: “Our line-up of shops associated with popular channels such as UKTV will complement viewers’ interests and give them an opportunity to browse for all kinds of goods. Flextech will give all its shops a consistent look and feel within Open so they are easy to use with the TV remote control.”
