Ruth Cartwright has been named managing director of media barter agency Active International.

Cartwright, previously investment director at Sky Media, will join Active International in September.

She is tasked with leading day-to-day operations in the UK, with a focus on strengthening digital partnerships, automation capabilities and future-facing solutions.

Meanwhile, Active International has promoted current managing director Cameron Swan to the newly created position of CEO.

He will be responsible for growth and digital innovation across new markets.

At Sky, Cartwright played a key role in shaping its investment strategy and the “Connections Mean Everything” commercial positioning.

Before Sky, she worked agency side, spending over four years at Dentsu Aegis Network and over six years at Maxus (now Wavemaker).

Cartwright is one of The Media Leader’s Top 50 Women Gamechangers in TV. At Connected TV World Summit in 2024, she spoke about the importance of measurement and collaboration.

Active International is owned by Active Media Services.

Swan said Cartwright’s “senior leadership, experience and talent will enable us to further accelerate our digital, technology and automation ambitions”.

Pointing to Active International’s thought leadership and knowledge of the media landscape, Cartwright added: “The sector is clearly evolving and that evolution is only going to accelerate over the next 12 months.

“I know this is a business that is really well-positioned to thrive, with ambitions to lead the market.”
