Freeland Appointed New Editor Of Weekend FT

FT.com editor, Chrystia Freeland, has been appointed editor of the weekend edition of the Financial Times’.

In her new position Freeland will oversee the Saturday edition of the Financial Times, as well as the Weekend FT and all its special supplements including the How To Spend It magazine.

Andrew Gowers, editor of the Financial Times, commented: “I am delighted to appoint Chrystia to this key role. She is a dynamic and creative journalist and will spearhead our efforts to revamp the weekend FT.

Prior to editing FT.com, Freeland was deputy editor of The Globe And Mail, based in Toronto, Canada. Before this she was the UK news editor of the Financial Times from 1998 to 1999 and between 1995 and 1998 she was the paper’s Moscow bureau chief.

The latest ABC figures for April to September 2002 show that the Financial Times has seen its circulation drop by 2.9% year on year to 464,888, down from 478,715 in the same period the previous year.
