FT Launches Sports Business Website
FT.com, the website of the Financial Times, has today launched a new sports section which focuses on the international business of sports. Combining results, events news and special reports, FTSports aims to distinguish itself from other sports sites with its emphasis on the business of sport.
The site is split into three sections. Business Of Sport, treats sport as a separate industry sector, much like telecoms or energy, for example. This section claims to be the first news and analysis service to recognise sport as an industry in its own right.
Secondly, there is the Sports Wire, which features fixture results and stories from around the world. The Wire covers 15 major worldwide sports. The third section of the site, called Special Reports, will offer readers coverage of major events from both a sporting and business perspective.
“No other multi-billion dollar worldwide industry that touches the lives of so many people is so poorly served in terms of international business coverage,” says editor Paul Maidment. “The sports business now sits where three of the biggest new-economy industries – entertainment, leisure and media – converge. We are going to be the first to address this with dedicated reporting on FT.com.”
