Internet search engine Google has surged ahead yet again, with the latest figures from Nielsen//NetRatings showing that 706 million searches were undertaken in the UK in August, 30 million more monthly searches than six months ago.
This 4.4% increase in the use of Google in Britain means that 16,000 searches are conducted every minute in the UK, which is a rate of 264 every second.
There was over half a billion (546 million) click-throughs or results clicked on. This indicates an 18% increase on February 2006. The company boosted its share of all UK click-throughs by 3% points over the past year, from 65% to 68%.
