Handbag-Sized Glamour Proves Big Success
![]()
Condé Nast’s innovatively handbag-sized first venture into the mid market women’s glossy sector, Glamour (see Condé Nast Prepares To Deliver Glamour To the UK, But Will We Buy It?), has proved such a hit that an additional print run of 50,000 has had to be produced to keep up with demand.
The new magazine launched on 8 March with an initial print run of 647,000. The original target set by Condé Nast was a circulation of 200,000, but thanks to this initial success, a figure closer to 400,000 is being bandied about, which could put the title ahead of established Emap fashion title Elle and hot on the heels of IPC’s Marie Claire (see graph below)
To assist the petitely proportioned mag in standing out on the news stands, the launch issue was displayed in various point of sale arrangements including a simple branded box for street news stands and shelf displays for high street newsagents such as WHSmith. Sales in WHSmith have been successful enough to result in 30% of stores selling out of the title.
