IAB Publishes Web Jargon Busting Guide

The IAB has today published “The Marketer’s Guide To Digital Jargon” defining some of the most “impenetrable” terms used within the online media and advertising industry.

The Jargon Buster, which can be downloaded from the IAB website, includes definitions of over 500 media, telecommunications advertising and IT phrases and is designed to make the internet more accessible for those unfamiliar with terms such as pop up, interstitial, cookies and spiders.

Chairman of the IAB, Danny Meadows-Klue, said: “The internet’s growing community has developed a whole new set of language and terms that describe the medium and the way in which it is used. The Jargon Buster has been written specifically to make surfing easier and help marketers, agency executives, publishers and ordinary web users understand the language of this powerful marketing tool.”

The IAB continued its push for internet accountability last week with the launch of a series of guidelines aimed at standardising the way in which internet traffic is monitored (see IAB Continues To Push For Accountability).
