I’m A Celebrity Finale Peaks With 13 Million Viewers

An average of 12.3 million viewers tuned in to ITV1 last night to see former England cricketer, Phil Tufnell, crowned king of the jungle in the finale of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
The climax of the antipodean reality-TV show, which was broadcast between 9pm and 10.30pm, peaked with an audience of almost 13 million, providing ITV1 with a massive 55.6% share of viewing.
This eclipsed BBC1’s new crime drama, Murphy’s Law, which attracted an average of 5.2 million viewers and secured 20.6% of the available audience betweem 8.30pm and 10pm.
The second series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here has proved something of a ratings winner for ITV1. The show has maintained audiences in excess of 8 million since it began last month (see I’m A Celebrity Proves A Ratings Winner For ITV1), making it significantly more popular than the first series, which averaged around 7 million viewers.

The reality-TV extravaganza has also helped draw audiences to ITV2, which recently achieved its highest ever weekly share of viewing, due to its live streaming and spin-off version of the original ITV1 show (see ITV2 Scores With I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here).
Commneting on the figures, Claudia Rosencrantz, ITV’s controller of entertainment, said: “It’s been a fantastic series packed with drama, emotion and plenty of humour and it really got the nation talking.”
Advertisers have been keen to capitalise on the popularity of the I’m A Celebrity format and last month Granada Enterprises secured V Energy Drink as the £1 million broadcast sponsor of the show (see Granada Brings Energy To I’m A Celebrity Reality Show), as well as Ask Jeeves as the sponsor of a dedicated I’m A Celebrity website (see Granada Secures Asks Jeeves For Celebrity Sponsorship).
