In The Know Selling Just 107,000 Copies A Week

In The Know H Bauer’s women’s weekly magazine, In The Know, is selling an average of just 107,000 copies per week, despite launching with a print run of 900,000.

However, Bauer said that it has a sustainable business model and that new developments are in the pipeline.

In an audited publisher’s statement, Bauer said that the audited figure covered September to December 2006 and only included news stand sales. It did not release any information about bulks, frees or discounted copies.

In The Know was launched at the end of August with a cover price of £1 and has had one national price promotion and two smaller retail specific price promotions.

David Goodchild, UK managing director of H Bauer, said: “The start has been in line with the pace of most new launches last year which have entered a particularly aggressive marketplace.”

He added: “Our launch strategy was to be as transparent as possible with our figures. For this reason we carried no paid-for advertising for the first months of launch to ensure we were not tied into unrealistic ad figures.”

At the last ABCs, H Bauer’s other women’s weekly titles, Bella, Take A Break and That’s Life!, were all down year on year, although Take A Break remained the leading title in the sector (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2006:Mixed Results Revealed For Women’s Weekly Market).

ABC figures for July-December 2006 are released on February 15, with NewsLine providing comprehensive coverage of all areas of the results.
