IPC Media Looks To New Women’s Weekly

Look Magazine IPC Media has revealed its biggest magazine launch ever, Look, in a joint venture with Groupe Marie Claire.

The venture is set to make its way into the women’s weekly market with the backing of an £18 million investment over the next two years as well as a major retail and advertising campaign.

It was rumoured late last year that the fashion, shopping and celebrity focused title was set to appear shortly (see IPC Media Sweetened By Biggest Ever Mag Launch). The actual launch, plus massive sampling campaign, will take place in the week commencing 29 January. Issue one will be on sale at newsstands on Tuesday 6 February.

Evelyn Webster, managing director of IPC Connect, said: “Once again IPC is breaking new ground. The high street fashion market has never been hotter, with today’s young women living out their decade of indulgence and spending more than ever before on their weekly fashion fix. Look will deliver perfectly to this audience, attracting a whole new generation of young women to this sector.”

“There is a generation of confident, bright and ambitious young women across the UK not currently served by the magazines out there,”added Ali Hall, editor of Look. “These women want it all, and they want it right now. Look will be the perfect high street filter for them. ”

Groupe Marie Claire chief executive Arnaud de Contades, said: “Look is a truly innovative magazine and we are delighted to be launching in the UK with IPC. Our joint venture is one of the most successful and long-standing business partnerships in UK media.”

IPC’s new launch will boost its current triple bill of Woman, Woman’s Own and Woman’s Weekly, which all saw a drop in circulation year on year at the last ABCs.

Woman, which has the largest total distribution of the three at more than 417,00 copies per week, saw its circulation decline by 14%. Woman’s Own and Woman’s Weekly dipped by over 13% and 8% respectively (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2006:Mixed Results Revealed For Women’s Weekly Market).
