IPC Release Results For Last Six Months

IPC’s results for the 6 months ending 31 March 2000 show pre-tax profits of £2.4m, compared to £0.7m last year. Operating income was up 36% at £29.6m and operating margins were at 16.7%, up 1%.

Chief executive Sly Bailey commented: “The financial results are solid, and reflect the successful action it was necessary to take to protect our position in one of our key markets.”

Earlier this month IPC Southbank relaunched 70s cult magazine Nova (see First Issue Review: Nova: The Fashion Magazine Reborn?). The group. which has just announced restructuring plans (see IPC Southbank Undergoes Restructure) no doubt hopes that the venture will help reverse the fortunes of the last six months, which saw turnover within the division fall by 1.7%.

Launching these results, IPC also pointed to the success of its women’s portal www.beme.com, which launched in February this year (see Web Review: BeMe.com) and is already amongst the top three UK women’s sites.
