ITC Demands Brookside Apology

The Independent Television Commission has this afternoon announced that it has directed Channel 4 to broadcast an apology for the Brookside omnibus which contained “unacceptable scenes relating to incest between a brother and sister.”
The ITC believes that the scenes were unsuitable for early evening viewing when a large number of children may be expected to be watching. Channel 4 has agreed that the scene, which showed Nat and Georgia Simpson in bed together after sexual intercourse, should have been edited from the omnibus edition. C4 will now have to broadcast an apology immediately before the Brookside omnibus on Saturday 2 November.
This is the second time that Brookside has seriously offended the ITC. In October 1993 the programme received a formal warning about its violent content, in particular a murder scene involving a knife. The ITC also issued a formal warning to Carlton this week over its London Bridge programme which showed a rape scene *ITC Issues Warning Against Carlton.
