ITC Warns MTV And Adult Channel
The ITC has today issued formal warnings to two satellite channels regarding compliance with programme content rules.
The formal warning given to MTV Europe follows three interventions by the ITC in the last few weeks, concerning inappropriate scheduling of music videos when children will be watching, and an unacceptable advertisement. MTV have been warned they must put more effective compliance procedures in place to prevent a repeat in breeches of the ITC code.
The Adult Channel was also warned following occasions when programmes were transmitted unencrypted, which although allowed on a special subscription service, were unacceptable on open viewing. Adult Channel has been warned that any future unencrypted transmissions should only contain programmes that would be suitable for a more generally available channel.
Any future breaches would be likely to incur action from the ITC; this could be a fine of up to £50,000 or in extreme cases the revocation of the licence held by the company concerned.
