ITV Claims Top Wednesday Night Viewing

ITV had its best Wednesday peaktime ratings performance so far this year on June 12th, according to unofficial viewing figures.

ITV claims it achieved a 47.8% share of the available audience, compared with 20.0% for BBC1 – BBC’s lowest share on any night in 1996. The success of Wednesday night was largely due to Coronation Street (12.6m/71%) and the repeat showing of A Touch Of Frost (8.9m/47%). BBC1’s new sports quiz The Olympic Games is believed to have attracted only 3 million viewers (16%), while the number of viewers watching the drama Bad Boys dropped by a million to 3.3 million (17%). ITV says that the move to Wednesday night for the last episode of the BBC comedy compilation show Funny World meant a halving of its earlier audiences to 3.6 million (20%).
