Joint Treaty Signed
John Major and Irish premier Albert Reynolds today signed a joint declaration on Northern Ireland.
The declaration says both governments would back a united Ireland, but only if a majority of Northern Ireland people are persuaded to favour it. John Major has indicated that Sinn Fein will be welcomed at the talks within three months of a ceasefire.
The Ulster Unionist MP John Taylor has said the declaration is “not as bad as feared”; however DUP leader, the Rev Ian Paisley has vehemently denounced the joint declaration.
