Jupiter Launches Site Measurement

Jupiter Media Metrix has launched a new method of web traffic analysis, called Site Measurement. The new system will be the only kind to offer all levels of web caching, thereby reducing bandwidth costs for web publishers. The system works through a small piece of code being placed on every page. It then tracks exactly what users experience in their browsers, regardless of where the pages are served.
Seth Segel, senior vice president of Jupiter, said, “Site Measurement is the first consistent, accurate and timely web traffic analysis service for an industry which, to date, has relied on a variety of inconsistent and inaccurate internal website traffic guages.”
Web caching is the storage of web pages, locally on the users browser, a corporate proxy server or an ISP. It improves the users experience with faster page delivery, while reducing infrastructure and bandwidth costs for the publisher. However, until now web measurement services could not measure browser cache and therefore missed what Jupiter estimates to be around 45% of page impressions.
Web traffic statistics from the new system will be delivered in real-time, updated hourly, with reports available from the Site Measurement website.
