Kiss FM Wins Yorkshire Radio Licence
The Radio Authority has awarded the new regional radio licence for the Yorkshire area to Kiss FM, sister to the radio station currently broadcasting in Manchester.
The award by the Radio Authority is however, likely to cause controversy because sales for the regional station are to be handled by MSM, the sales house owned by Capital Radio which earlier in the year took over sales of EMAP and GWR stations from IRS. MSM has the dominant share of radio advertising sales, as much as 80% of total radio revenue.
The Yorkshire regional licence covers more than three million adults in an area which includes the cities of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and Kingston-Upon-Hull.
Sir Peter Gibbings, Chairman of the Radio Authority, commented, “The application by Faze (Kiss FM) to provide a service of dance and related music directed at a younger listenership than existing ILR services in the region most fully satisfied the criteria.”
