Look magazine closes

Time Inc. UK has closed women’s glossy Look, bringing the title to an end after 11 years.

The issue on sale from 29 May will be the final edition of the weekly magazine, which the publisher said could not compete in an era where fashion news can be sourced online and through social media.

“When Look launched in 2007, it was a publishing phenomenon and sold more than 300,000 copies a week at its peak,” said Justine Southall, Time Inc. UK’s managing director, fashion & beauty.

“But Look’s audience behaves very differently today. They’re consuming media via screens and accessing numerous digital sources for fashion and celebrity content. Facing these circumstances and a continuing pressure on sales, we have taken the difficult decision to close the brand.”

The latest ABC circulation figures for Look show it was selling around 57,000 copies each week, a drop of -36.8% year on year.

Southall said the publisher will now be focusing greater efforts and activity on the Marie Claire brand, which is shortly due to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
