Looney Joins Viacom Outdoor As Head Of Client Sales

Viacom Outdoor has strengthened its senior sales team with the appointment of Martin Looney as head of client sales.

Looney, formerly sport and digital sales director at the Press Association, will lead a team of seven responsible for handling the company’s major clients, which include Unilever, Nestlé and UIP.

His appointment represents the completion of the company’s management structure alongside head of specialist sales, Jason Cotterrell and head of agency sales, Jane Reynolds (see Viacom Outdoor Appoints New Head Of Agency Sales).

Commenting on his appointment, national sales director, Laura Doughty, said: “Martin’s proven track record of sales excellence and reputable client portfolio will build on an already successful team and further our client sales service.”

Prior to joining Viacom Outdoor, Looney spent 16 years in press, including three years at Express Newspapers and 12 years at The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, It is also understood that Viacom Outdoor is planning to launch ten plasma screens in London Underground stations that will carry television-style ads. Reports suggest that the screens will launch in April and will differ from the stalled XTP project (see XTP System Will Not Launch This Year), in that they will not run as a network but will be operated separately at each station.

Recent figures from the Outdoor Advertising Association show that the sector saw revenues rise by 15% year on year during the fourth quarter of 2002 to reach £187.8 million. Total outdoor revenue for 2002 was £690.1 million, which represents a 1.9% increase on the previous year (see Outdoor Revenue Rises By 15% During Quarter Four 2002).
