Lord Dubs Appointed Chairman Of The BSC

Lord Dubs has been appointed the new chairman of the Broadcasting Standards Commission (BSC). He will hold the position for three years, commencing immediately.

Lord Dubs was formerly deputy chairman of the Independent Television Commission (ITC) as well as deputy chairman of the BSC. Announcing the appointment culture secretary Chris Smith said: “I am delighted that Lord Dubs has agreed to become chairman of the Broadcasting Standards Commission. [His] strong leadership qualities, experience of the broadcast media, and sensitivity to the views of the public will enable him to make an important contribution to the work of the BSC.

“In taking up the post of chairman of the BSC Lord Dubs has had to resign as deputy chairman of the ITC under the 1996 Broadcasting Act. In his new role he will, however, work closely with the ITC, the Radio Authority and the other regulators in this field. His widespread policy making experience will be of particular value as the BSC contributes to the debate about the future regulation of broadcasting and telecommunications.”
