MPs’ expenses scandal boosts traffic to Telegraph website

Telegraph Website The Daily Telegraph‘s website has seen a big boost in traffic following the MPs’ expenses scandal, according to new data from Hitwise.

Hitwise said that 1 in every 756 page views in the UK last week went to a Telegraph property, with the newspaper’s market share of UK pages views (0.13%) the highest it has ever been.

The Telegraph, unsurprisingly, was top of a list of sites receiving traffic from the various MPs’ expenses search terms.

Hitwise said that 97% of traffic from the portfolio was organic, with only the News of the World picking up significant paid traffic. ‘mp expenses’ was the 25th most popular search term sending traffic to the Sunday tabloid last week, and 88% of that traffic was paid.
