Musik Enters New Year With Multiple Covers

IPC Ignite’s Muzik magazine is to increase its print run for its February edition, which will feature three split covers featuring different music heros and a covermounted CD.

The covers will feature Madonna, Kraftwerk or Prince who, according to Muzik are: “Three musicians who have enjoyed hugely successful careers and influenced many of today’s biggest stars.”

The multiple covers are deigned to give readers the opportunity to pick the artist they consider to be their personal hero.

Richard Coles, publishing manager of IPC Ignite, commented: “Three different covers – a first in the dance market- will be Muzik’s most ambitious project to date and will be supported by an increase to the printrun. Similar promotions on sister title Uncut have helped increase the profile of the title at the newstand and we are confident this promotion will make it one of the best selling issues of the year.”

The covermounted CD will include songs from other stars considered by Muzik to be stars in their own right, such as Prince and will include cover versions exclusive to Muzik magazine.

Earlier this year IPC Ignite appointed Malik Meer as the new editor of Muzik following the departure of Conor McNicholas to NME. However, despite a re-vamp last March the title has experienced an 18.5% year on year decline circulation to 36,018, according to ABC data for the first half of 2002 (see IPC Appoints New Muzik Editor).
