MXR Wins West Midlands Licence

The Radio Authority has awarded the local digital multiplex licence for the West Midlands region to the MXR Consortium, it was announced today. Delivering digital programming to an area with an adult population of around 3.3m, this is the third such licence to be awarded to the group (see MXR Wins Second Digital Licence).

MXR proposes a total of eight programme services for the region including dedicated children’s station, Fun, Jazz FM, adult rock from The Arrow, easy listening from Smooth, Galaxy 102.2, Heart FM and Saga Radio. In addition to the commercial services, the BBC Asian Network will also be carried.

MXR Consortium chairman Phil Riley, said: “This is great news for all concerned. MXR will deliver the next generation of radio that listeners in the West Midlands have been waiting for.”
