National Newspaper ABC Summary – August 1998
Latest national newspaper ABC figures show that the overall market has declined by over 920,000 copies (3.3%) year on year for the period March-August 1998. The continues a decline trend that has been running for some time now.
The two Express titles have been suffering circulation losses for a few years now, but compared to last month both papers have increased the number of copies sold. The Express is up by 28,000 copies, and the Express On Sunday by 45,000. Rosie Boycott, previously editor of The Independent, became editor of the two titles in April this year (see Boycott Joins Express).
The Financial Times continues to grow stronger, with sales up 13% year on year. The Daily Mail, which is looking strong year on year (up 137,000 copies), lost 33,500 in sales compared to July.
