Yearling have started offering an interactive TV listings guide on the World Wide Web. Information is available for all terrestrial channels and regions, and for the pick of the cable and satellite channels.

The big advantage of the service is the use of selection options. Television listings are already overcrowded, and with the advent of 500-channel digital TV, traditional print media will be simply incapable of handling their information in an accessible way. This is where services like Yearling’s will come into their own. Users can choose to see schedules for only the channels they specify – if someone only ever watches Channel 4 and UK Gold, they will only get listings for those two channels. There are also options to display schedules for only those programmes featuring favourite actors or showbiz stars and to display only certain time periods.

This also means that, if Yearling were to charge, users would be able to pay for only the information they wanted, instead of paying for a hundred pages of schedules for channels they never watch. At the moment, however, Yearling are offering their service free, and are looking to fund themselves through selling advertising space.
