New Editor For Emap’s Mixmag

Emap has appointed Viv Craske as editor of its dance music and clubbing magazine Mixmag.
Craske has been acting editor of the magazine for the last three months. He replaces Tom Whitwell, who left to become deputy editor of Emap’s The Face soon after Neil Stevenson was appointed editor of the monthly style title earlier this year.
Craske, who joined Mixmag as features editor in April 2002 and became senior editor in September 2001, has already started reshaping the Mixmag team. He has appointed Gavin Herhily as music editor and has promoted Paul French to the post of features editor.
Commenting on his appointment Craske said: “There’s a lot of talent on the Mixmag team and I’m looking forward to working with them to develop new ideas for the future.”
Mixmag, which is currently the market-leading dance music and clubbing magazine (see ABC Jul – Dec 2001 Music Titles), has seen circulation increase significantly since its launch in the mid-nineties (see below). However, according to ABC results for the six months ending December 2001, the title saw circulation fall by 5.5% year on year to 100,277, down from 106,111 in the same period the previous year.
Earlier this month Emap launched its rock music magazine Kerrang! as a radio station in Birmingham (see Emap’s Kerrang! Rocks The Airwaves). The move is part of an initiative to gauge demand for the station ahead of the Emap’s bid to win the new West Midlands radio licence, which is due to be advertised by the Radio Authority next year.
