New Emap Team To Sell Youth Radio Brands Nationally

Emap is launching a dedicated sales team to sell its youth radio brands nationally for the first time.

The new ‘One Nation’ team will offer advertisers a tailored package allowing them to target listeners of Emap’s 15-34 radio brands Kiss, Smash Hits and Kerrang!.

The move follows the group’s decision to commission RAJAR to measure audiences for all of its services available nationally on FM, Freeview, DAB and cable.

Emap is on the verge of appointing a national sales director to lead the One Nation team, which will also handle its other national properties, including the Smash Hits Chart, Trafficlink, Friday Night Kiss and the Student Broadcast Network.

Emap claims that the creation of the One Nation team is part of a “sustained strategy” to build extensive digital distribution for its brands, giving new access to advertisers and listeners.

Commenting on the initiative, Emap Advertising’s broadcast director, Tim Bleakley, said: “OneNation incorporates all aspects of the under 35 market, covering the three tribes of pop, dance and rock audiences. It creates a completely new access point for advertisers who want national radio campaigns.”

Last month Emap announced that radio revenues were down by 2% year on year during 2002. However, the group claims to have outperformed the national radio market in the second half of the year after a period of under-performance in the first half (see Emap Cautious As 2002 Revenues Rise 2%).
