New Media Advertisers Help Boost Revenue At Carlton
Advertising revenues at Carlton Communications have shown an 8% growth in the four months to January 1999, chairman Michael Green told the company’s annual general meeting yesterday. Revenues were bolstered particularly by strong demand from new media, telecommunications and car companies.
“The growth in dotcom advertising has been particularly dramatic with 35 new brands advertising in our regions in the first three months of the year and average monthly spending by dotcom advertisers increasing by almost 100 per cent quarter on quarter,” said Green.
Carlton’s businesses span television, the internet, cinema and production. The company is currently awaiting a Competition Commission report into its proposed £7.8 billion merger with United News & Media (see Carlton-United Merger Deal Referred To Competition Commission). Carlton also owns half of digital terrestrial broadcaster, ONdigital; the remaining half is held by rival ITV giant Granada.
Looking to the future Green says: “Carlton has a clear agenda. We’re going to focus on television, build up ONdigital, develop our content and drive into online services. Achieving these goals will strengthen Carlton’s market leading businesses and deliver value for shareholders.”
