New Mirror Editor/Newspaper Promotions
Mirror Group Newspapers has announced that David Banks, editor of the Daily Mirror has been appointed editorial director of the whole group. He will be replaced by Colin Myler, editor of the Sunday Mirror. The Sunday Mirror will be edited on a temporary basis by Paul Connew.
The Sunday Telegraph is to try out a price-cutting strategy in areas of the West Country throughout the summer, from 70p to 50p. Telegraph circulation director Chris Haslum has pointed out that the reduction is experimental, but stressed that both the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs rely on quality to attract readers. The 5p price cut to the Today in the Merseyside area is continuing.
The Daily and Sunday Express are to start a new competition on 17 April called Spin for a Million. One reader will get the chance to spin a wheel of fortune to win £1m. Readers have to collect 16 tokens. The promotion will be supported by TV and radio advertising worth £400,000 by DMB&B.
