Ofcom appoints new chairman

Ofcom Logo Ofcom has appointed Colette Bowe as its new chairman, to replace David Currie.

Bowe, who joined the Ofcom board in January, will start in the new £200,000 three-day-a-week role in the new year.

Andy Burnham, culture secretary, said: “Colette has the right mix of skills and experience for this role and I’m confident she also has the vision necessary to take Ofcom forward and tackle its future challenges.”

Bowe currently sits on the board of Morgan Stanley Bank International, London and Continental Railways, Electra Private Equity, Axa Framlington and the National Institute for Economic and Social Research.

Previously, she has worked at the Department of Trade and Industry, the Independent Broadcasting Authority and the Personal Investment Authority.

Bowe was also founding chairman of the Telecoms Ombudsman Council and chaired Ofcom’s Consumer Panel from 2003 to December 2007.

Currie has stepped down after six years in the role, which Bowe is expected to occupy for a five year term.
