OFT To Review BSkyB Cable deals
The Office of Fair Trading is to review the controversial contracts signed between satellite broadcaster BSkyB and cable companies Telewest and Nynex CableComms.
The OFT will determine whether “individual restrictions are anti competitive”, a spokesman said yesterday. The contracts signed guarantee the two cable companies long-term supply of Sky pay-television programming in exchange for an agreement not to compete with BSkyB on film or sport programming (Newsline 1/06/95). The OFT have received complaints from several cable companies including Videotron and International Cablete, that the contracts constituted restraint of sale.
