RAB And MediaTel Top Industry Web Poll

Websites for the Radio Advertising Bureau and MediaTel are the most popular and highly regarded of all media websites, according to a poll conducted by media intelligence and technology company Media-i (see Poster Publicity Launches Media Intelligence Outfit).
The survey, which asked UK media planners and buyers to list their top media sites, placed the RAB’s online operation in first position, closely followed by MediaTel in second place and Media Guardian and the World Advertising Research Centre in third and fourth.
Broken down by media sectors, the poll shows that Channel Four has the best TV contractor website and Viacom the best outdoor site, while Media Week and Zenith came out top of the marketing press and media agency sectors.
The poll is part of a comprehensive report by Media-i, which assesses the strengths and weaknesses of current sites and provides a list of recommendations for improving functionality, efficiency and usability.
According to Media-i, the research shows that agency media executives consider general industry sites far more valuable than individual media owner sites. The four main criticism of media sites are that they lack content, carry out of date information, are poorly designed and carry unusable content.
Respondents also said that they would like to see more research, more ideas, more basic up-to-date information and as many case studies as possible.
Jon Puleston, a founding director of Media-i, said: “The RAB and MediaTel came out head and shoulders above the rest. However, too many sites lack useful and useable content, mainly because they are overshadowed by print-based thinking in their construction.”
Other companies whose sites made it into the top ten include Emap Advertising, Pearl & Dean and BRAD.
