Radio Authority In Broadcasting Bill Complaint
The Radio Authority has made a formal complaint to the government regarding proposals in the Broadcasting Bill now before parliament which would allow a BBC-owned commercial radio station to exist.
Although the BBC itself would not be able to run a commercial station the proposed clause would allow a BBC-owned station to broadcast. The Bill does however prevent the BBC from holding ITV, Channel 5 or local cable licences. The Radio Authority is concerned that a BBC company could try and expand into a national commercial radio station along the lines of Classic FM.
… The Radio Authority has announced that it has awarded the new FM Independent Radio Licence for Oban in Argyll to Oban FM.
Around 7,500 adults will be able to receive the new service.
