Regional Radio Licence Advertised For East Midlands

The Radio Authority has advertised a new regional licence to cover part of the East Midlands, including Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. The licence will be FM, and should cover more than 1.5 million adults.
The Authority will be taking into consideration applicants’ proposals to “cater for the tastes and interests of listeners in this region, and to broaden the range of audience choice in relation to existing ILR services which are available”. These include New Leicester Sound, Gem AM in Nottingham and Derby and Ram FM in Derby.
The licence will be for a period of eight years from the date the station comes on air. Closing date for applications is Tuesday 21 May 1996. The Authority expects to decide and announce who has been granted the licence within three months after the closing date.
