BSkyB has signed deals with communications companies Orange and 3, which will mean that all Orange 3G customers will now be able to receive up to 23 Sky mobile TV channels and 3 customers will have access to up to 27 channels.
Customers will be able to get live news, sport, music, entertainment and documentaries from some of television’s biggest brands, as well as a mix of dedicated ‘made for mobile’ channels and others that are streamed ‘as live’.
All Orange 3G customers will be able to choose from three themed packs of Sky mobile TV channels, dedicated to news and sport, entertainment and music programmes. Each pack is charged at £5.00 per month.
The agreements mark another step in the development of Sky’s strategy to offer a large range of content to mobile users and follows the success of Sky mobile TV in the first year since its initial launch.
“Sky Mobile TV has got off to a great start and there is no doubt that customers are showing an appetite for entertainment on the move,” said Stephen Nuttall, BSkyB’s director of business development. “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Orange to ensure that now even more people can enjoy TV from Sky wherever they are.”
Deborah Tonroe, head of TV and video for Orange, added: “Orange TV offers customers the greatest range of channels available on the mobile. We’re allowing people what they want, wherever they are, and we’re being rewarded by impressive viewing figures.
“Last month alone we hosted over five million TV sessions across Europe. The addition of Sky to our ever-increasing portfolio will no doubt increase these viewing figures further.”
