Sport First Pushes Forwards
The all-sport newspaper Sport First is launching a new advertising and PR campaign aimed at Premiership football fanzine readers.
The Sunday publication, which recently experimented with an additional Monday edition which was unsuccessful (see Newsline), is the only national to feature fanzine-style reports of matches.
The advertising campaign begins this month with the catch-phrase: “We put football first. We put fans first. Sport First.” It will feature as a full-page ad in 20 Premiership team fanzines and some leading clubs from the Nationwide League.
Publisher of Sport First, Keith Young, commented: “By placing advertising and stories in all the major fanzines, those readers will see that Sport First is delivering football coverage every week which is more in-depth than any other paper and in a style that they appreciate.”
According to Sport First, the title has seen its sales more than double in the north of England over the past week, apparently on the back of a major TV advertising campaign in the Granada region, handled through CDP Media. In cities like Liverpool and Manchester, sales were up by over 150% last weekend.
Editor of the title, David Emery, said: “More football fans than ever read Sport First for the first time last Sunday and we expect more to follow as they realise the full extent of our soccer coverage and results, which puts every other national newspaper in the shade.”
