Independent News and Media PLC has had a very strong 2004 and is looking forward to a strong 2005, according to positive pre close trading statement issued by the company today. The leaders of the compact revolution have not been phased by rival paper,The Times, also down-sizing.

Independent show that it has gone up in circulation by 17.2%, although competitor, The Times has a circulation of almost three times the size of the Independent, 659.547, the Indy has increased its’ dramatically in the past year to 263,209.

The company has seen its Group advertising revenues have remained buoyant, increasing by 10% year on year, with Q4 proving particularly strong as all key advertising categories showed progressive improvement on last year. Total Group Revenue for 2004 is comfortably ahead of 2003. The company attributes this to a combination of good advertising and circulation growth.

The Group’s outlook for 2005 is very optimistic and strong results for the past year puts them at the forefront of comparable media companies for 2005.
