Super Bowl XXXVI Showcases Advertising

The Super Bowl is America’s premier sporting event and according to the Jack Myers Report, last weekend’s Super Bowl XXXVI was a showcase for some of the world’s largest brands.

Rumours that the American TV networks were having trouble attracting advertisers in the wake of the events of 11 September were allayed with brands such as Budweiser, Pepsi and Levis all running commercials during the game.

According to Myers, Budweiser, Monster.com and Yahoo all ran “internet-related” TV ads directing users to their sites. Budweiser.com ran a post-game poll allowing viewers to vote for their favourite Bud commercial, while Yahoo.com gave users the chance to select which version of Pepsi’s Britney Spears ad they wanted to see in the second quarter of the game.

Other major brands including AT&T Wireless, AOL and Visa were also attracted to the event, proving that even in these difficult times major sporting events can still pull in the big names.
