TalkSPORT In Pole Position With New Sponsor

National speech-based radio station talkSPORT has secured car manufacturer Seat UK as the six-figure sponsor of its new Sports Performance of the Month awards.

The deal will see talkSPORT’s breakfast and drivetime shows discuss possible winners of the award before announcing shortlists for listeners to vote on. The award will then be presented to the winning sports personality on a monthly basis.

As part of the agreement, a talkSPORT sponsored car will also be entered into this year’s Seat Cupra Championship and those voting in the Sports Performance awards will be offered the chance to win VIP tickets to the event.

As well as sponsoring talkSPORT’s monthly awards, Seat has negotiated sponsorship of an hour-long sports review of the year. To be broadcast by the station at Christmas, the programme will sum up the best sporting moments of the last 12 months.

Speaking of the deal, Matt Wilson, sponsorship manager at talkSPORT’s saleshouse, Impact, said: “This deal is further evidence that talkSPORT is ahead of the game when it comes to integrated radio sponsorship. It has a genuine benefit to consumer, advertiser and media owner, in short, great radio with a tailored message.”

According to the latest RAJAR figures for the three months to December, talkSPORT suffered a 22.7% year on year dip in weekly reach to below the 2 million mark. However, the station recently announced record revenues with profits rising by 42% in October last year (see Impact Announces Promotions Amid Record Revenues).

Radio sponsorship and promotions went from strength to strength last year and the latest figures from the Radio Advertising Bureau showing an increase of 15.2% in S&P revenue during the fourth quarter to more than £20 million (see Double Digit Growth Helps Radio Out Of Downturn).
