TalkSPORT Secures L’Oreal For New Campaign

TalkSPORT has secured L’Oreal for a special promotional campaign on its No Nonsense Sports Breakfast show.
The campaign will centre around daily competitions where listeners will be invited to guess the identity of a Premiership footballer who has flat, boring and thinning hair. Listeners will be invited to enter the competition by text message.
The competition will use the strapline: “Relax, the situation’s covered” in order to highlight the benefits of L’Oreal’s shampoo for men with hair-loss issues.
Matt Wilson, Sponsorship & Promotions Executive at talkSPORT’s sales house Impact, commented: “This promotion will help L’Oreal communicate this to their target audience in a light-hearted look at Premier League footballers.”
TalkSPORT hit the headlines today after receiving more than 200 emails, text messages and letters from British Muslims concerned it was giving a platform to the controversial Finsbury Park cleric Sheikh Abu Hamza, who is scheduled to appear on the James Whale show this evening.
Critics have condemned the move as a cheap ratings stunt, following the station’s announcement that the breakfast show team are flying to Kuwait to broadcast from the Gulf. This is in defiance of Foreign Office warnings to stay away as war looms.
However, James Whale defends having Hamza on his show, commenting: “Getting these people around a table and talking may help us all to understand the problems facing us all. My programme doesn’t shy away from the controversial issues. In fact, if Osama Bin Laden called me tomorrow, I’d ask him what time he could come on…”
Earlier this month, TalkSPORT’s parent group, The Wireless Group, announced it is challenging the existing method of radio audience measurement by commissioning a rival three year survey using electronic measurement devices (see MacKenzie Commissions Rival Radio Audience Survey).
