Taylor Nelson Sofres Shows Good H1 Figures, Despite Difficult Markets

Global market research firm, Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), has posted a strong set of first half financial results, with pre-tax profits rising by 10.9% to £19.0 million year on year.

Chief executive, Mike Kirkham, said that market conditions have been more difficult than had been expected. Nevertheless, TNS’ business performed ‘resiliently’ in the six months to 30 June 2002.

“The results show that with a global presence and clearly directed strategy, it has been possible to deliver both turnover and profit growth,” says Kirkham.

The market research sector has a seasonal weighting toward the second half, so TNS’ figures are expected to show an improving performance for most markets during the rest of the year. Kirkham predicts that Taylor Nelson will achieve expected levels of turnover growth for the full year.

In the first half, turnover was up by 9.1% to £296.0 million, whilst operating profit rose by 6.5% to £24.5 million, after £2.6 million restructuring costs.
