TDI Expands Into Europe With Dutch Acquisition

Transport advertising company, TDI, has made its first expansion into the European outdoor market with the acquisition of Dutch street furniture company, Alrecon, for an undisclosed sum. The company was sold by Dutch national rail company, NS Groep N.V. which is divesting of its non-core businesses.

TDI, which sells advertising across national buses and the London Underground, will now have access to 5,500 sites on the Dutch railway network, as well as 9,500 bus shelters and 1,200 billboards. Alrecon’s network of sites accounts for about 30% of the national outdoor market in the Netherlands.

Jeremy Male, TDI’s chief executive, says: “With a strong inventory base of London Underground and bus media, we have grown the UK outdoor market, and TDI’s share of it, and we are confident that we can replicate this experience in the Netherlands.”

In September last year TDI was awarded Media Brand of the Year award by Media Week and earlier in the year won the contract to sell advertising on Sheffield’s Supertram and Birmingham’s Midland Metro tram networks (see TDI Wins Sheffield Supertram Contract).

TDI is part of US-based Infinity Broadcasting, which, in turn, is 80% owned by CBS Corporation.
