Telewest Launches UK’s Fastest Broadband Service

Telewest Broadband has launched its fastest ever home internet service across the UK, following an extensive trial amongst 1,500 existing Blueyonder customers.

The new two megabyte version of Telewest’s Blueyonder internet service is designed to provide home internet users with a new standard of web connection, enabling the quick download of large music, film and software files.

Telewest claims the new service is 40 times faster than traditional dial-up products and four times more powerful than broadband from BT, AOL or Freeserve (see Telewest Trials UK’s Fastest Broadband Service).

Chad Raube, director of internet services at Telewest Broadband, commented: “While BT and other major ADSL providers offer a one size fits all service, we recognise people have different needs and provide a menu of cable services to suit.”

Broadband services are proving to be a huge growth area and reports show that consumer uptake of high speed internet services exploded during 2002, with a four-fold increase in connections predicted to take place throughout Europe by 2006 (see Last Year’s Broadband Boom Kick-Starts Uptake).

The latest figures from the Office Of National Statistics also show that permanent internet connections made up 11.8% of total subscriptions in February 2003, up from just 3.5% in February 2002 (see Newsline Feature: Internet Usage On The Up In 2002).
