The Guardian Boosts Its Saturday Offering

The Guardian has announced a number of initiatives to boost circulation of its Saturday edition. The Weekend magazine is to be given major investment and two extra supplements will be moved to Saturdays.

Under the editorship of Katherine Viner Weekend will become a glossy from 21 April. With an average 60% increase in editorial pages, the magazine will introduce beauty, fitness, wellbeing and relationships to its current mix. Interior supplement, Space, which currently appears on Thursdays in the London area, will be incorporated into Weekend.

The Editor, which currently appears on Fridays, will also be moved to Saturday.

Marc Sands, marketing director at GNL, said: “We have done extensive research on our weekday and weekend readership which shows that there is room for growth on Saturdays. People have more time to digest many elements of the Guardian hence our strategy to invest in Weekend and move The Editor to Saturdays when readers have more time to enjoy it.”

The Mirror also recently unveiled a new Saturday package (see Mirror Unveils £10m Boost To Saturday Offering).
